The challenge with planning codes is that they attempt to use words and sketch diagrams to communicate a feeling and style for urban areas. They are also very generic and unable to accomodate the specific and local feel of places.
To address this in Leederville, Western Australia Ferart Design and the Leederville Town Team – Leederville Connect; produced and directed a video about Leederville style.
We considered that showing people pictures was a more powerful and effective way of communicating style and feel than words and sketches.
This video is being used by planners and architects and local government to inform the design of future urban development in Leederville.
