The City of Canning prepared a major,  redevelopment strategy for a 160ha in the centre of the city. Currently is area is made up of a major shopping mall, box shops along a major arterial road, institutional facilities and a number of brownfield sites.

There is very significant development potential including the construction of a Transit Orientated Development around two railway stations and the planned expansion of the shopping mall.

This development would see the population in this area grow from a few thousand to over twenty thousand people. One of the impediments to the development was the supply of energy and water from traditional utilities. Ferart worked with the City of Canning to develop a strategy to supply alternative infrastructure from renewable resources and thereby reduce the cost of infrastructure.
